Drainage system rendered defunct at Nowhatta
Srinagar, July 30: The residents of Nowhatta have expressed resentment against failure of authorities to restore defunct drainage system in the locality.
They said the drainage system was augmented a few months ago. “Now the drainage system is overflowing on the road at Bahauddin Sahib area of Nowhatta waterlogging road and residential areas,” they said.
“The drainage water started to accumulate months back and we even asked officials to fix it. However, for the last few days back, the water overwhelmed the manhole, and the road was flooded. This is all because of the ill planning and wrong implementation by the concerned contractors who should be taken to task,” said Adil Ahmad, a local.
The locals said that recently, the road was macadamised, and the overflowing water has flooded it. They said that if the drainage point is not fixed, in a few weeks, the road will be in shambles.
“Authorities are spending millions of rupees on beautification of Downtown, but these works are not up to the mark. The drainage was fixed just a few months back this year, and it has already collapsed. The issue will also affect the fresh macadam, and the road will develop potholes,” said Irfan Ahmad, another local.
The locals said that the sewage water is overflowing. They said elderly people and students face problem to walk on the road due to waterlogging. They said the road leads to Makhdoom Sahib (RA) Shrine, and devotees are also facing inconvenience.
“This should be fixed before it gets worse. If the water keeps overflowing, it will enter residential areas and shopkeepers in the area will also suffer,” said Abid Ahmad, another local.
