Dr Tasleem Arif from Srinagar listed among Stanford’s top 2% scientists
Srinagar, Oct 30: Dr Tasleem Arif, a dermatologist from Soura, Srinagar, has been named among the top two percent of scientists in the world by Stanford University, marking his second consecutive year on the prestigious list (2024 and 2025).
Dr Arif, who completed his MD in Dermatology from Government Medical College Srinagar and MBBS from Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), called the recognition a proud moment for both institutions. “I am not glad because I made it, but because I represented my fraternity and my Union Territory,” he said.
With over 155 research publications and several book chapters to his credit, Dr Arif is widely recognised for his pioneering work on scleroderma, an autoimmune disease that hardens the skin and internal organs. His research on “Esophageal involvement in systemic sclerosis and morphea” was reviewed by The New England Journal of Medicine in its NEJM Journal Watch, a rare honour in medical research.
Dr Arif is also credited with the “Tasleem’s Water Jet Sign,” a diagnostic marker that bears his name, and innovative techniques in vitiligo and cosmetic dermatology. In 2023, he received the prestigious Imrich Sarkany Non-European Memorial Scholarship from the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology.
