Dr Sachidananda Mohanty appointed Executive Director AIIMS Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 21: The Centre appointed Prof Dr Sachidananda Mohanty as the new Executive Director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Awantipora, Kashmir.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved Dr Mohanty's appointment to spearhead the establishment of the new AIIMS campus in Kashmir.

Dr Mohanty previously served as Medical Superintendent at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

The new AIIMS campuses in Jammu and Kashmir were approved by the government in 2019 to expand quality healthcare and medical education in the region.

While AIIMS Jammu has already been inaugurated and is functional, the Awantipora facility is still under construction.

According to a top official associated with the project, delays were caused by certain issues in recent years that slowed progress.

However, the official stated that these problems have now been resolved and construction is progressing rapidly.
