Dr Mir’s book on Kashmir tourism unveiled in Srinagar
Srinagar, June 1: Domestic Tourism in Kashmir – Potential, Problems and Prospects, authored by Dr M H Mir, was released at a function held at Radisson Hotel, Collection and Spa, Srinagar, today.
Dr Mir, a former Special Secretary to the Government from Administrative Services, shared insights into the objectives of his book. “The book will serve as a guide to tourists, stakeholders and planners. Kashmir has immense potential for tourism and it has to be developed with proper planning and care. We can promote eco-tourism at various places in Kashmir to safeguard the environment and also promote tourism,” he said.
Highlighting Kashmir’s natural and cultural richness, Dr Mir added, “Kashmir’s lush green meadows, gushing streams, lofty Himalayan mountains, Mughal Gardens, hospitable people and culinary art — Kashmir has all the essentials for being one of the famous tourist destinations in the world.”
The event was attended by a host of dignitaries and stakeholders. Farooq Ahmad Shah, MLA Tangmarg, was the chief guest, while chairman Hoteliers Club, Mushtaq Ahmad Chaya was the guest of honour.
Other prominent attendees included Mahmood Ahmad Shah, Managing Director KPDCL; Mohammad Haroon, Secretary to Government; Wasim Ahmed, Additional Secretary; and Prof Reyaz Qureshi, Head, Department of Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure Studies, Kashmir University. Members of the tourism and trade fraternity were also present.
