Srinagar, Apr 21: Dr GV Sundeep Chakravarthy, a decorated IPS officer of the 2014 batch, has formally assumed charge as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar.

He succeeded Imtiyaz Hussain Mir, who has been promoted to rank of Deputy Inspector General Police and posted as Director SDRF.

Dr Chakravarthy, who has held several key assignments across the Valley, is widely known for his strategic leadership and his proactive initiatives for the welfare of Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel.

Prior to this, Dr Chakravarthy served in various critical capacities including SP South Srinagar, SP Handwara, SSP Kupwara, and SSP Kulgam, AIG CIV Police Headquarters, most recently, he held the position of SSP Anantnag — one of J&K’s most sensitive districts — where his tenure was marked by successful anti-terror operations and enhanced coordination between the police and intelligence agencies. He also served as SDPO Uri and Sopore, SP Operations Baramulla.

He also served as CIV SSP (Crime and Vigilance), where he dealt with intricate internal matters of the police force and oversaw key disciplinary and oversight mechanisms.

Throughout his career, Dr Chakravarthy has garnered respect both within and outside the police establishment for his tactical acumen and people-centric approach. His work in Kulgam, Kupwara Anantnag and Handwara was particularly lauded for bringing down terror incidents and dismantling key modules, while simultaneously focusing on community outreach programs aimed at building trust between law enforcement and civilians.

Upon assuming charge, Dr. Chakravarthy emphasised the importance of community policing, strengthening public trust, and maintaining law and order with a firm yet humane approach. “Ensuring the safety and security of the people of Srinagar will remain our top priority. At the same time, we will focus on transparency, responsiveness, and welfare within the force,” he said in his first interaction with officers.
