Dr Fazlul Qadir Parray is new principal SKIMS Medical College Hospital

Srinagar, Mar 5: The government Wednesday appointed Dr Fazlul Qadir Parray, Professor of the Department of General Surgery SKIMS, Soura, as Principal SKIMS Medical College Hospital, Bemina, on a tenure basis for two years.

The appointment comes five months after the previous principal completed his extended tenure.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, Dr Parray expressed gratitude for being entrusted with the responsibility of the medical college and hospital, which is an extension of SKIMS, Soura.

He said he would address the long pending issues that the faculty, staff, and students of the medical college have faced over the years.

Parray said the “adoption” of SKIMS MC has been incomplete with SKIMS Soura.

“There are different set of rules at SKIMS Soura and a different set of rules for SKIMS MC. This ambiguity of rules needs to be addressed,” he said.

For patient care, Dr Parray said, SKIMS MC Hospital had unique characteristics, which could be utilised in a major way.

“This hospital is on the highway, which makes it quite suitable as a Trauma Centre. I will definitely work to make a full-fledged trauma centre at this hospital a reality,” he said.

In addition, Dr Parray said, it was his vision to create state-of-art cardiac care infrastructure at this hospital.

“It caters to the entire north Kashmir and is located right on the highway. If we can have life-saving cardiac interventions possible round the clock at this hospital, it would be a great service to our people,” he said.

Dr Parray said that the ongoing projects at SKIMS MC would also come under focus.

“All my predecessors have worked hard to complete the projects and improve the patient care and also address the issues of staff. However, the transition period from trust mode to government hospital mode took long. I pray that the Almighty gives me strength to take these projects to a logical conclusion and also help solve the problems that the human resource has faced for a long time,” he said.

The previous principal of the SKIMS MC completed his tenure in August 2023, which was extended to September 2023.

The post of principal was advertised in September 2024.
