Srinagar, July 16: National Conference President, Dr Farooq Abdullah, and Vice President Omar Abdullah on the observance of Youm-e-Ashura emphasised that this day holds significant importance in the history of Islam, marking the moment when Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his 72 revered companions imparted crucial lessons of perseverance, sacrifice, and faithfulness to all of humanity.

In a statement Dr Farooq Abdullah highlighted the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Aaali Muqam (AS) and his companions as a symbol of courageous resistance against injustice, oppression, and evil. He emphasized that Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) is not just a figure for a specific group but belongs to all of humanity, with his struggle, penance, and principles serving as a shared asset for everyone.

“The sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Aali Mukam (AS) teaches a timeless message that those who stand firm for their principles become immortal, while oppressors, despite their temporary victories, face eternal condemnation,” he said. Dr Farooq expressed hope that the observance of Youm-e-Ashura would pave the way for peace, prosperity, and harmony not only in Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh but also across the country.

NC Vice President Omar Abdullah echoed the sentiments, emphasising the historical and idealistic significance of the month of Muharram. He highlighted the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his family members during this month, as they upheld the cardinal principles set by the Holy Messenger of Islam (PBUH).

“During the days of Muharram, Imam Aali Makam (AS) and his household displayed patience and submission to Almighty Allah, setting an example for humanity. Imam Hussain (AS) elevated the standards of humanity and distinguished between good and evil through his struggle,” he said.
