Dr Farooq lauds Omar Govt’s effort for tourism revival
Srinagar, Sep 29: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Monday extended greetings on World Tourism Day, highlighting the region’s natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.
In a statement from party headquarters, Nawa-e-Subha, Srinagar, Dr Farooq said tourism is not just an economic activity in J&K but a vital source of livelihood and an integral part of the social fabric.
He commended the Omar Abdullah-led government for restoring tourist confidence, particularly after the Pahalgam tragedy. “The administration responded swiftly and effectively, reaffirming J&K’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination. These efforts laid the foundation for sustainable, long-term tourism growth,” he said.
Dr Farooq welcomed the opening of additional tourist destinations across the valley and urged inclusive development in regions such as Chenab and Pir Panjal. He stressed the importance of sustainable tourism models that safeguard the environment and preserve local culture.
“Let this World Tourism Day remind us of our shared duty to build a peaceful and progressive Jammu & Kashmir, where every visitor feels valued, and every citizen benefits from tourism-led growth,” he added.
