Srinagar, Jul 17: National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Thursday expressed grief and sorrow over the tragic drowning incident in Uri that claimed the lives of three individuals including a noted scholar Haji Mehnaz Rashid Shah of Khanyar.

In a statement issued today, Dr. Farooq said, “I am deeply saddened to learn about the unfortunate drowning incident in Uri. The loss of young lives in such a heartbreaking manner is a tragedy beyond words. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families in this hour of pain and grief. May Almighty give them the strength to bear this irreparable loss.”

He also urged the local administration to take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure proper safety arrangements near water bodies, especially during the peak summer season when such tragedies are more likely. Party General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar also expressed solidarity with the families of the victims and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls.

Meanwhile, a delegation of Jamait-e-Hamdani led by its chief spokesperson GM Saqi visited the house of the noted scholar Haji Mehnaz Rashid Shah of Khanyar, and expressed sympathies with his family. "He was a religious person. His loss is irreparable," Saqi said.
