Farooq Abdullah demands independent probe into surge in encounters in J&K
Srinagar, Nov 2: National Conference President Farooq Abdullah Saturday demanded a probe into a surge in encounters in Jammu and Kashmir following the government formation in J&K.
“I doubt why there wasn’t a spurt in gunfights before the government formation. There should be an independent probe to find out who is doing it,” Abdullah said.
He said the militant fighting in the Khanyar area must not be killed and instead arrested.
“They should be arrested to find out whether there is a task to destabilise the Omar Abdullah-led government. Tourism is thriving and people are doing their routine business. Militancy was at its lowest, that’s why I am demanding a probe,” Abdullah said.
Post government formation in J&K, there has been a spurt in attacks on non-local labourers and on the security forces as well.
