Dr Chalkoo to deliver keynote address at International Congress of Surgeons in Dubai
Srinagar, Nov 22: In a testament to his global recognition in the field of minimal access surgery, Professor DrMushtaqChalkoo, a distinguished surgeon from Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar has been invited to deliver a keynote talk on laparoscopic D2 Gastrectomy for gastric cancer at the third International Congress of Surgeons and Anaesthesiologists to be held in Dubai, UAE, on November 23 and 24.

Prof Chalkoo, known for his expertise in laparoscopy and minimal access surgery, has also been nominated as an organising committee member for this prestigious twin conference, emphasising his standing in the international surgical community.
This invitation follows Prof Chalkoo’s recent participation at the annual conference of the Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, from November 2 to 5.
At the conference, he delivered a guest talk on laparoscopic D2 gastrectomy for gastric cancer management and chaired a live operative session.
Accompanied by his registrars and FNB students, they presented their research papers, showcasing the collective expertise of the surgical team.
A graduate of MBBS Government Medical College Srinagar and postgraduate from Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS), Prof Chalkoo holds fellowships from prominent surgical associations, including the Minimal Access Surgeons of India, Indian Association of Gastroenterology Surgeons, and Indian Hernia Society.
He currently serves as a Professor of Surgery at Government Medical College Srinagar, where he imparts knowledge to MBBS, MS, and FNB students.
Prof Chalkoo's contributions to the field of minimal-access surgery have earned him numerous accolades.
Notably, he was honoured with state recognition for introducing the Chalkoo technique in minimal access surgery for gallbladder stone disease.
His innovative approach has led to the development of the Chalkoo retractor in mini laparoscopic cholecystectomy, securing a national patent from the Government of India in October 2021.
With an impressive track record of participating in over 127 conferences and delivering guest talks globally, including in Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, USA, Bangladesh, and Saudi Arabia, Prof Chalkoo’s influence extends beyond borders.
His achievements have been acknowledged in the World’s Who Is Who 2015 edition, highlighting his significant contributions to the field.
A prolific author and researcher, Prof Chalkoo has authored two books, ‘My Expressions’ and ‘Pazar-AkhChend’ and has more than 70 publications to his credit.
His impact is further evident through his popular YouTube channel, which boasts over 412 educational videos on surgical techniques.
As Prof Chalkoo prepares to grace the international stage in Dubai, his keynote address promises to provide a comprehensive overview of laparoscopic D2 Gastrectomy for gastric cancer, showcasing a decade of expertise and innovation in the field of minimal access surgery.
