Dr Alka Sharma conferred ‘Didi Nirmala Deshpande Shanti Doot Award, 2024’

Jammu, Oct 22: Gandhi Global Family, a renowned organization committed to promoting the ideals of peace, non-violence and social harmony, has conferred “Didi Nirmala Deshpande Shanti Doot Award, 2024” upon Dr Alka Sharma from Jammu.

The award instituted in memory of the revered social reformer and peace advocate, Didi Nirmala Deshpande, celebrates individuals who have made significant strides in promoting Gandhian values of peace and non-violence.

The award for Dr Alka Sharma, a teacher in J&K School Education Department, was announced at the Gandhi Global Family headquarters in New Delhi, in the presence of distinguished dignitaries, peace activists and social leaders. The event highlighted Dr Sharma’s numerous projects that have significantly impacted vulnerable communities, especially her work with women and children.

The award recognized her exceptional contributions to peace-building, humanitarian work and her tireless efforts in fostering unity within communities. In her acceptance speech, Dr Alka Sharma expressed her deep gratitude, stating, “This award is not just an honour for me, but a recognition of the collective effort towards building a more peaceful and compassionate world. I am truly inspired by Didi Nirmala Deshpande’s life and work, and I will continue to strive for peace and unity in every possible way.” Her name was recommended to the New Delhi office after screening by Padam Shri Dr S P Verma, President GGF J&K.
