“Rates of vegetables have sky-rocketed and unscrupulous vendors are taking undue advantage of decontrol of rates of essential items. On behalf of the people and as consumers, we express strong resentment and concern for the overcharging of vegetable vendors. Authorities must ensure an adequate supply of vegetables in the market and open their own sale outlets for the convenience of people,” Shah said.

“It is ironic that concerned authorities have given a free hand to vegetable vendors to fix their rates which are high from prevailing market rates. Most of the vegetables are sold over Rs 100-150 per kg. Due to this, people are facing additional financial burdens. We make a fervent appeal to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to look into the issue and direct the concerned authorities to cap the rates of vegetables and fruits,” he added.
