Downtown Heroes FC ends J&K Bank FC's reign, secures Srinagar Premier League title

Srinagar, Dec 4: Downtown Heroes FC etched their names in the annals of Srinagar football history as they clinched victory in the Srinagar Premier League 2023, ending JK Bank FC's five-year reign as champions.

The season-long journey for Downtown Heroes FC was nothing short of spectacular, with an outstanding performance that included 18 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw in 20 matches.

This remarkable achievement not only solidifies Downtown Heroes FC as the champions of the Srinagar Premier League but also establishes them as the first private club to claim this prestigious title. Since 2017, JK Bank FC has held a firm grip on the championship, making this victory a monumental moment in the local football scene.

Downtown Heroes FC's path to glory was characterised by its exceptional skill, seamless teamwork, and an unwavering determination to excel. Beyond their prowess on the field, the club's community-driven approach played a pivotal role in earning them widespread support, making them the most followed team in the league. Their triumph not only brings home a trophy but cements their position as a unifying force within the local community.

The team's success extends beyond the confines of Srinagar, as they also showcased their talent on a larger stage by participating in the prestigious Durand Cup. This season's Srinagar Premiere League, organised by DFA Srinagar, featured a total of 220 matches, providing each team with 21 opportunities in the round-robin format. Downtown Heroes FC claimed the top spot, followed by JK Bank FC in second place and STFC Natipora securing the third position.

The league was sponsored by New JK Roadways in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council.
