Doda police attach Rs 45.32 lakh property of drug peddler
Ramban, Aug 25: Police in Doda on Monday attached a double-storey house worth Rs 45.32 lakh, stating that it was acquired through proceeds of illicit narcotics trade, as part of an ongoing crackdown under the NDPS Act.
The proceedings were executed by SHO Doda Inspector Parvaiz Ahmed Khanday and DySP Headquarters Doda, Ajay Anand, in the presence of the concerned Executive Magistrate First Class, under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police said this action was directly connected to an FIR registered under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act at Police Station Doda against Shakeela Begum, alias Taya, wife of Farooq Ahmed, resident of Sadeeqabad, Doda, who was arrested in the same FIR as a forward link as the main drug supplier and is currently languishing in Bhaderwah Jail. As per the police, the move was part of the District Police’s broader strategy to hit drug traffickers where it hurts most—their illegally earned assets and financial gains.
The accused, as per the police, has remained involved in 4 FIRs of illicit trade of narcotic substances.
Senior Superintendent of Police Doda, Sandeep Mehta, while highlighting the action, said, “Doda Police is fully committed to wiping out the menace of drugs from the district.”
He said their approach was not limited to arrests, but they were determined to dismantle the entire ecosystem of drug trafficking by targeting both the perpetrators and their unlawfully acquired wealth. “We will continue to take strict legal action against all those involved in this nefarious trade,” he added.
SSP further appealed to the general public, especially youth, to stay away from drugs and support police by sharing information about drug peddlers and their activities, assuring that the identity of informers will be kept confidential.
