Ramban, Dec 22: Owing to cloudy skies and dry weather the Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts are reeling under severe cold conditions with temperature going several degrees below from the freezing point at isolated places of Chenab region of Jammu on Sunday.

The hilly areas of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts continue to shiver in biting cold as the cold and dry spell continues .

Report said the Banihal , Paddar , Kishtwar , Gool , Bhadrawah ,Batote Patnitop Sanasar areas recorded the coldest night of the season so far. Banihal recorded -1.3, Bhaderwah recorded 0.8 and Paddar recorded -5.7 degree Celsius.

The minimum day temperature settled down below 8 degrees in Kishtwar, Ramban and Doda.

Parts of Banihal, Jawahar tunnel, Mahu, Mangit , Sanasar , Patnitop froze due to intense cold weather. The day temperature of District Headquarter town Ramban however settled at 5 degree Celsius .

The night temperature is going down every passing day.

The falling temperatures have forced people to wear heavy woolens, blazers and scarves as the entire Chenab region witnesses colder days.

The areas are covered in a blanket of fog and smitten by chilly wind and saw a maximum temperature go down below 9 degree Celsius. The humidity has fluctuated between 20 to 24 degree Celsius.

The maximum temperature was below normal by 10 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature was below normal at most places over the Chenab region, the MeT department said.

The MeT department said the weather would continue to remain mainly dry with misty conditions for the next few days.

Meanwhile vehicular traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained normal but due to fog, low visibility the vehicular traffic remained slow. The Jammu bound vehicles reached late to Chenani-Nashri tunnels on Sunday.
