Doctors suspend routine work at GMC Baramulla
Baramulla, Aug 17: The routine work, including Outpatient Department (OPD) operations, were suspended at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla on Saturday as doctors joined a nationwide protest called by the Indian Medical Association (IMA).
The protest was in response to the brutal rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata on August 9.
The protesting doctors expressed their solidarity with the victim and demanded justice for the victim . The aggrieved doctors raised slogans and called for swift action against the perpetrators of the heinous crime.
The doctors stressed the need for enhanced security, particularly for female medical professionals. They urged the government to implement a Central Protection Act specifically designed to ensure the safety of female doctors and to create a secure working environment in healthcare facilities across the country.
“We are here to demand justice for our colleague who was brutally raped and murdered in Kolkata,” said one of the protesting doctors. “We also want the government to take immediate steps to ensure the safety of female doctors. We need a Central Protection Act that guarantees a safe working environment for all medical professionals, especially women,” said protesting doctors.
