Doctors, paramedical staff of DH Ramban, SDH Banihal abstain from work
Ramban, Aug 17: In response to the nationwide call given by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) against the rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata, doctors and paramedical staff of District Hospital Ramban and Sub District Hospital Banihal went on 24-hour strike and staged protest demonstrations on Saturday.
Due to the strike of doctors and paramedical staff, except for emergency services, all the routine work like the Outpatient Department (OPD) services remained suspended, and patient care was affected at both District Hospital Ramban and Sub District Hospital (SDH), Banihal as doctors, nurses and paramedical staff abstained from the work and staged protest demonstrations.
The representatives of protesting doctors, paramedical staff in Ramban said the protest was organised in response to the nationwide call given by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) for showing solidarity with a female doctor victim who was gang raped and murdered in a government hospital in Kolkata on August 9.
The protesting doctors and paramedical staff expressed their solidarity with the victim and demanded justice for the victim.
They raised slogans and demanded swift action against the perpetrators of the heinous crime.
A protesting doctor at District Hospital Ramban demanded that the government should ensure to create a safe environment for female doctors including other female working professionals at different working places across the country. They demanded that the government implement a Central Protection Act so that Kolcata-like brutal incidents would be avoided in future.
The protesting doctors and paramedical staff stressed to enhance security for female medical professionals in healthcare facilities in the country and J&K.
