Due to the strike of doctors and paramedical staff, except for emergency services, all the routine work like the Outpatient Department (OPD) services remained suspended, and patient care was affected at both District Hospital Ramban and Sub District Hospital (SDH), Banihal as doctors, nurses and paramedical staff abstained from the work and staged protest demonstrations.

The representatives of protesting doctors, paramedical staff in Ramban said the protest was organised in response to the nationwide call given by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) for showing solidarity with a female doctor victim who was gang raped and murdered in a government hospital in Kolkata on August 9.

They raised slogans and demanded swift action against the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

A protesting doctor at District Hospital Ramban demanded that the government should ensure to create a safe environment for female doctors including other female working professionals at different working places across the country. They demanded that the government implement a Central Protection Act so that Kolcata-like brutal incidents would be avoided in future.
