Poonch, Feb 26: District Magistrate (DM) Poonch on Thursday asked the Officer Commanding, 79 RCC (GREF) to ensure continuous monitoring of avalanche-prone zones to facilitate safe, smooth, and uninterrupted vehicular movement on Mughal road, going to open from February 27, 2026.

DM Poonch in his advisory has stated that the road will be open for Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) only and no vehicle will be permitted to proceed beyond Chandimarh before 11 am and after 3 pm. Besides, DM Poonch has also asked the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Poonch, and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Traffic Rural, Jammu to deploy sufficient personnel at Behramgalla, Bufliaz, and Poshana check posts to ensure smooth regulation of traffic, strict compliance with his (DM’s) order, and adherence to the notified timings.

“In view of the clearance of snow accumulation from Bufliaz to Peer Ki Gali stretch (km 43.600) on Mughal Road (NH-701A), and pursuant to the recommendation for its opening as conveyed by the Officer Commanding, 79 RCC (GREF) vide Communication No. 2115/RTS/WED/E2 dated February 25, 2026, it is hereby ordered that the movement of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) shall be allowed on Mughal road from Bufliaz to Peer Ki Gali with effect from February 27, 2026 between 11 am and 3 pm only, subject to fair weather conditions and absence of any unforeseen exigencies,” DM Poonch ordered.

Further, he asked the Officer Commanding, 79 RCC (GREF), to ensure deployment of adequate men and machinery at vulnerable stretches and avalanche-prone areas along the route to promptly address any eventualities such as landslides, avalanches, shooting stones, etc.

DM Poonch has advised the commuters to plan their travel strictly in accordance with traffic advisories issued by the Traffic Police in this regard.
