Srinagar, Oct 10: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, in collaboration with Human Rights and Anti Corruption forum J&K HQ-Delhi Thursday organized an awareness programme on World Mental Health Day at Govt Girls Higher Secondary School Kothibagh.

The programme was conducted under the directions of Jaffer Hussain Beg, Chairman DLSA/Pr. District and Sessions Judge Srinagar, and under the supervision of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Sub-Judge/Secretary, DLSA Srinagar, which was aimed to shed light on the importance of mental health and wellbeing.

The programme was attended by Nusrat Bukhari, Principal, Government Girls Higher Secondary School Kothibagh, Srinagar; Mudasir Ahmed Naikoo, President of Human Rights and Anti Corruption J&K, Aejaz Bashir, Secretary Education wing of HRACF

The chief guest highlighted the significance of mental well-being and emphasized the program's objective of empowering students with knowledge and resources to support their mental health.

She urged attendees to break down stigmas surrounding mental health and encourage open dialogue about these issues and to respect human rights of fellow citizens and all.

Advocate Mujtaba, addressed the participants, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging and addressing mental health concerns. He shed light on the legal framework surrounding mental health rights and highlighted the crucial role of accessible legal aid in supporting individuals facing mental health challenges.

Dr. Abrar Guroo, Senior Consultant at the Institute of Medical Sciences, shared valuable insights based on his experience. He discussed the multifaceted nature of mental health, highlighting various conditions and their impact on individuals and society.  He stressed the importance of early intervention, preventive measures, and access to quality mental health care. He further added  the role of community support, self-care practices, and seeking professional help in maintaining good mental well-being.

This event was a testament to the DLSA Srinagar's commitment to promoting mental health awareness and providing essential support to the community.
