Srinagar, Sep 30: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar today organised a comprehensive legal awareness programme at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Mujgund. The initiative was designed to sensitize students to critical legal and social issues, with particular focus on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Victim Compensation Scheme 2019, and the menace of drug abuse.

The programme was held under the chairmanship of Tasleem Arief, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, and conducted under the supervision of Sajad Ur Rehman, Sub-Judge/Secretary, DLSA Srinagar. The event brought together students, teachers, and legal experts for an engaging and informative session.

Advocate Suhaila Ali, Panel Lawyer, DLSA Srinagar, addressed the gathering with an insightful lecture on the growing challenge of drug abuse and its social consequences. She emphasized the importance of awareness among youth to prevent and combat this pressing issue.

Continuing the session, she also spoke in detail about the provisions and significance of the POCSO Act and the Victim Compensation Scheme 2019. She explained the legal safeguards available to children and victims, underlining the role of law in ensuring justice and protection.

The programme concluded with an interactive session in which students actively participated, raised questions, and shared their views. Their involvement reflected the impact of the awareness drive and the need for continued dialogue on such issues.

Reaffirming its commitment, the DLSA Srinagar stated that it will continue to spread awareness on vital legal and social matters, empowering youth with the knowledge required to build a just, safe, and informed society.
