DLSA Ganderbal organises programme on POSH Act
Ganderbal, Aug 11: In a significant initiative, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ganderbal, in coordination with the Chief Education Office Ganderbal, organised a legal awareness programme on the Protection of Women from Sexual Harassment at the Workplace (POSH) Act, 2013.
The programme, held at the Conference Hall of the District Court Ganderbal, was conducted under the supervision of Ritesh Kumar Dubey, Chairman DLSA Ganderbal, and the guidance of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary DLSA Ganderbal.
Deputy CEO Ganderbal, Rumaysa Sangeen addressed the participants and spoke extensively on the POSH Act, highlighting the role and responsibilities of teachers in creating a safe and respectful educational environment.
She appreciated DLSA Ganderbal for organising such events and emphasised the importance of teachers’ roles in implementing the POSH Act in educational institutions.
Tanveer Ashraf, Assistant Legal Aid Counsel Ganderbal, imparted awareness on understanding the POSH Act 2013. He said the POSH Act is landmark legislation in India aimed at preventing and addressing sexual harassment at the workplace.
It was enacted in 2013 to provide a safe and secure environment for women employees. He added that the Act defines sexual harassment as any unwelcome act or behavior, such as verbal, non-verbal, or physical, that affects a woman’s dignity or creates a hostile work environment.
Adv. Burjeena Hamid, Panel Lawyer DLSA Ganderbal, elaborated the provisions and implications of the POSH Act. She said the sexual harassment of women at workplace is a form of gender based violence.
She made participants aware about sexual harassment at the workplace, role and responsibilities of Local Complaint Committees & internal Complaint Committees. She added that the POSH Act is a vital legislation that aims to create a safe and respectful workplace for women. It’s essential for all stakeholders to understand their roles and responsibilities in preventing and addressing sexual harassment.
