Rajouri, Feb 2: Clear weather, after inclement weather conditions, heavy rains and snowfall for three consecutive days, brought much-needed respite for people in the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch from a cold wave and related ailments on Friday.

Meanwhile, the movement of vehicles on the road from Thanamandi to DKG and DKG to Bufliyaz remained affected for the second day, due to slippery conditions after snowfall.

Earlier, for three consecutive days, bad weather conditions, followed by rainfall and snowfall, intensified cold-wave leading to a sharp dip in temperature. Upper reaches in twin districts had received snowfall while low-lying areas received plenty of rainfall.

On Friday, weather conditions improved in the sub-region and bright sunny days brought to an end the inclement weather which had badly affected normal life. Improved weather restored normal life, affected due to rainfall and snowfall. Bright sunshine also led to a slight surge in temperature, giving partial respite from severe cold.

“Continuous rainfall which continued till Thursday evening had resulted in a sharp dip in temperature. However, the weather has improved and the bright sun on Friday has brought significant change in temperature,” said Incharge Krishi Vigyan Kendra Rajouri, Arvind Kumar Isher.

“However, there is a possibility of rainfall in the next few days,” he said.

Meanwhile, the movement of vehicles on the road from Thanamandi to DKG and DKG to Bufliyaz continued to remain affected even today for the second consecutive day.

Deputy SP Traffic Rajouri-Poonch range, Muhammad Nawaz said that the road from Thanamandi to Surankote via DKG was still closed for vehicular movement.

Deputy SP said that the road was under upgradation and was still not blacktopped at many places between Thanamandi-DKG and Surankote and it had become too slippery after snowfall.

He added, “The road from Bufliyaz to Poshana has been restored partially while smooth vehicular movement is there on other roads in twin districts although there is some slippery condition on some roads.”
