Awantipora, Sep 2: The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (DJMC), Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), in collaboration with Radio Chinar 90.4 FM, Sopore, on Tuesday organised Radio Extravaganza—a vibrant talent hunt and skill showcase aimed at nurturing young voices.
The event provided students a platform to display creativity and communication skills while engaging directly with radio professionals. Head DJMC, Dr Rabia Noor, in her welcome address, said the initiative was about “discovering hidden voices, nurturing creativity, and empowering students to express themselves through different forms of art.”
Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr Afroz Ahmad Bisati, who was the chief guest, praised the department’s efforts, stressing that “radio is very much alive and constantly evolving.” Dean Outreach, Dr Ruheela Hassan, underlined that radio continues to be one of the most powerful mediums of communication and initiatives like this empower students to become “impactful communicators and storytellers of the future.”
Station Head, Radio Chinar, RJ Sahil Muzaffar, said their vision was to provide a platform for talent while motivating youth. “It is not just about entertainment, but about inspiring young people,” he remarked.
The highlight of the programme, IUST’s Got Talent, saw students enthusiastically perform poetry, singing, magic, music, live podcasting, and more, showcasing spontaneity and creativity before the audience. Representatives from Radio Chinar commended the participants and encouraged them to pursue opportunities in radio and podcasting.
The event concluded with RJ Sahil inviting selected students to the Radio Chinar studio for live programming, giving them hands-on experience in anchoring and production.
Organisers said Radio Extravaganza not only celebrated student talent but also deepened industry–academia collaboration between DJMC and Radio Chinar, blending classroom learning with practical exposure.
