Awantipora, Apr 29: The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (DJMC) at Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) conducted community outreach initiatives at four higher secondary schools in Tral, Pulwama, on Tuesday.

A team of faculty members and research scholars visited Government Girls Higher Secondary School Tral, Government Boys Higher Secondary School Tral, Government Higher Secondary School Batagund Tral, and Government Higher Secondary School Noorpora Awantipora.

The initiative aimed to promote awareness about diverse career opportunities in the media industry and received enthusiastic participation from students across all four institutions.

During the program, the DJMC team engaged in meaningful interactions with students, sharing valuable insights, practical experiences, and professional guidance related to building successful careers in various media fields, including journalism, broadcasting, digital content creation, film production, advertising, and public relations.

Dr. Rabia Noor, Head of DJMC, highlighted the skill-oriented courses offered by the department under the Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP). “The FYUGP aligns with India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and prepares students for both higher education and employability,” she explained. “Our department offers truly skill-based courses like Content Creation, Podcasting, and Multimedia Editing.”

Dr. Mujeeb Liyakat, Assistant Professor at DJMC, elaborated on NEP 2020 and its implementation in DJMC courses, while also discussing career prospects for media students.

Riyaz Ahmad Mir, Principal of Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Tral, noted that “community outreach programmes enhance quality education and guide students to pursue education aligned with their interests, in keeping with NEP 2020.”

The sessions concluded with hands-on training in camera handling and videography conducted by Zahoor Ahmad Gilkar, Junior Technical Assistant at DJMC.
