Rajouri, Nov 13: The festival of lights, Deepawali also called as Diwali, was celebrated with religious fervour and enthusiasm in Rajouri and Poonch districts.

Army personnel also celebrated the festival on Line of Control (LoC) lighting candles and diyas.

Markets of twin districts remained abuzz with shoppers ahead of the festival while large scale celebrations were witnessed in the region.

Besides bursting of crackers, people also offered prayers at temples praying for peace and harmony.

At many places, community celebrations were also held by people from different walks of life. They were seen offering sweets to each other.

Meanwhile, army troops on LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts also celebrated Diwali by lighting candles and diyas and offering prayers in temples and other religious places.

Besides remaining deployed on Line of Control, the troops also assembled at regimental and company levels. They offered prayers during the celebrations of Diwali.

Rajouri Police on Sunday celebrated the festival of light with zeal and enthusiasm.

A Diwali celebration programme was organised at District Police Lines Rajouri under the command of SSP Rajouri Amritpal Singh. Later, SSP and other police officers visited Parisha House Rajouri and distributed garments and other usable items among the children living there.

Police officers distributed sweets among the house inmates and also exchanged Diwali greetings.
