Div Com urges compassion in chilling cold

‘Act humanely in harsh cold conditions, replace damaged distribution transformers’

Srinagar, Dec 19: Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri Tuesday urged the officers to act humanely in harsh cold conditions and replace the damaged Distribution Transformer (DT) to ease the sufferings of the people.

An official spokesman in a statement issued here said that convening a meeting of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) to review the power scenario in Kashmir division, the divisional commissioner while addressing the meeting of officers directed the concerned to act humanely in the event of harsh cold climatic conditions and replace the damaged Distribution Transformer (DT) to ease the sufferings of the people.

He sought feedback on damaged DTs daily at his office.

The divisional commissioner reviewed the district-wise details of average curtailment hours in metered and non-metered areas, both in urban and rural regions of the Kashmir division.

The divisional commissioner directed the concerned to ensure sufficient buffer stock of DTs in each district and simultaneously ensure that different capacities of DTs were in the buffer to replace equal capacity of DTs.

He also directed the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and others concerned to launch drives against the power thefts vigorously to prevent pilferage.

The meeting was attended by DC Srinagar, Managing Director KPDCL, Chief Engineer KPDCL and KPTCL, Generation and Planning and Procurement, Kashmir, and other concerned officers in person, besides all DCs of
Kashmir division through video conferencing.

The MD KPDCL briefed the meeting about the power scenario in Kashmir through a presentation which included average demand met, maximum demand unrestricted and average curtailment.

He said that there had been no distress cut after the additional allocation of 200 MW of power across Kashmir.

The meeting also discussed the present DTs buffer status of KPDCL and replacement time.

It was informed that the average time taken to repair the damaged transformers has been reduced, with a restoration time of less than 12 hours in urban areas and in a day in rural areas.

The meeting also reviewed the status of smart metering under PMDP-U phase-I and phase-II.
