Director SKIMS pledges healthcare excellence on Independence Day

Srinagar, Aug 15: Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) celebrated the 79th Independence Day with a vibrant ceremony at its campus, led by Director SKIMS & EOSG, Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, who hoisted the National Flag followed by the National Anthem.

In his address, Prof. Ganie reaffirmed SKIMS’s pivotal role in nation-building, pledging to deliver advanced, equitable, and dignified healthcare powered by cutting-edge technology to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted recent milestones, including the installation of modern medical equipment, renovation of the Emergency Department with a dedicated triage facility, and creation of a separate pediatric emergency unit.

Prof. Ganie underscored SKIMS’s outreach through health camps and community programs, addressing public health concerns like diabetes, obesity, substance abuse, and mental health. He called for a renewed pledge to make SKIMS a true centre of excellence.

The event, held in a newly designated and decorated compound, marked the first large-scale Independence Day celebration at SKIMS. The cultural programme was cancelled as a mark of respect for victims of the Kishtwar tragedy.

Prof. Ganie commended the organising team, led by Prof. G.H. Yatoo, and thanked the Police and CRPF for their support. The celebration saw enthusiastic participation from faculty, staff, resident doctors, students, and employees.
