Srinagar, Nov 15: Director Sericulture Dev. Department J&K, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat met with a delegation of farmers from the Union Territory of Ladakh at Directorate of Sericulture Dev. Department J&K, Tulsi Bagh Srinagar. During the interaction, Bhat patiently listened to the concerns and aspirations of the visiting farmers. He shared valuable insights into the scope and potential of sericulture as a sustainable livelihood option particularly in the unique agro-climatic conditions of Ladakh, said a press release.

Providing a comprehensive overview of the initiatives undertaken by the Sericulture Development Department J&K, the Director urged the farmers to collaborate with the department to usher in an era of economic prosperity and sustainable income generation.

He emphasized that sericulture offers immense opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship, especially in rural and remote areas.

Bhat highlighted plethora of benefits available under various schemes such as the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) and Silk Samagra. He also informed the farmers about the KissanSathi portal a user-friendly digital platform that enables seamless application and access to government schemes.

Encouraging the farmers to take up silkworm rearing, the Director underscored its potential to significantly enhance household incomes and contribute to the region’s socio-economic development. The visiting farmers expressed their appreciation for the department’s outreach and assured their active participation in promoting sericulture in Ladakh.
