Dir Sericulture launches Autumn Silkworm Seed Distribution in Kashmir
Srinagar, Aug 1: Director of Sericulture J&K, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat today inaugurated the distribution of 40,000 Disease Free Layings (DFLs) of silkworm seed for autumn rearing at the Main Grainage, Tulsi Bagh, Srinagar. The initiative, which includes the distribution of rearing stands, aims to double cocoon production in J&K, aligning with the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP).
Addressing the gathering, Director Bhat emphasized the need for concerted efforts from officers and field staff to raise awareness about various schemes, including HADP, among silkworm rearers, farmers, and youth. "Our goal is to enable a large number of people to benefit from these programs and earn a dignified livelihood through engagement with the Sericulture Department," he stated.
Bhat also directed employees at the Main Grainage to maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness, stressing the importance of a conducive work environment for effective functioning.
As part of the event, the Director participated in a plantation drive, "Ek Ped Shahidon Ke Naam," planting a tree in honor of martyrs.
This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing the sericulture industry in J&K, in line with HADP's broader goals to boost agricultural and sericultural productivity in the region.
