Dir Sericulture flags off summer silkworm seed distribution drive
Srinagar, June 25: Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, Director, Sericulture Development Department, Jammu and Kashmir, inaugurated the summer distribution of F1 silkworm seed during his visit to the Basic Seed Station at Mirgund in Baramulla district.
As part of the initiative, 25,000 disease-free layings (DFLs) of F1 silkworm seed were distributed to officers representing various districts across the Kashmir region. These seeds will be further delivered to silkworm rearers and farmers, ensuring they are well-equipped for the upcoming rearing season.
During his visit, the Director inspected breeding operations at the station, including oviposition rooms and acid treatment units where processing of F1 seed is underway. He reviewed the facilities and ongoing procedures to ensure quality standards are maintained.
Later, Bhat visited the Sericulture Training Institute at Alochi Bagh, Srinagar, where he interacted with faculty members and in-service departmental trainees enrolled in the Junior Sericulture Course. The visit underscored the department’s emphasis on skill development and technical capacity-building within its workforce.
The department continues to position sericulture as a viable and sustainable livelihood option for rural communities in Jammu and Kashmir.
