Dir Agriculture Kashmir tours Kulgam, interacts with innovative farmers
Kulgam, Aug 31: Director Agriculture Kashmir, Sartaj Ahmad Shah, today conducted an extensive tour of Kulgam, interacting with farmers and observing innovative agricultural practices in the district.
During the visit, the Director visited fields in Tangjan Village, where farmers have successfully cultivated paddy in a high-density apple nursery—a unique experiment aimed at optimizing land use and boosting productivity. Mohammad Amin Ganaie, the farmer behind the initiative, briefed Shah on the techniques and results of his innovation.
Appreciating the experiment, the Director highlighted the importance of adopting innovative practices in agriculture. “Such experiments set a benchmark for others.
The techniques applied here will be studied and replicated in other areas, with results analyzed scientifically to maximize benefits for the farming community,” Shah said.
Shah urged young and educated farmers to draw inspiration from progressive cultivators like Ganaie and adopt innovative approaches in their agricultural ventures. He emphasized that modernization and experimentation are key to enhancing crop yields and sustaining agricultural growth in the region.
Reiterating his commitment to the farming community, the Director assured that farmers would receive all necessary technical support for their pre- and post-harvest operations. He directed field officials to work in close coordination with local farmers, providing guidance and assistance to improve cultivation practices and ensure better productivity.
The visit was part of the Agriculture Department’s ongoing efforts to promote modern farming techniques, support innovation, and strengthen farmer outreach programs across Kashmir.
