Dilipidated Bachi Darwaza-Islamia College road hampers vehicular movement
Srinagar, Nov 2: Commuters have expressed resentment against failure of authorities to repair Downtown’s major link route— Bachi Darwaza-Islamia College link road.
They said that the road adjacent to the famous Makhdoom Sahab (RA) Shrine is in shambles and full of potholes. “The road has been neglected for a long time now. As road repair works have been taken up in many areas, we appeal to authorities to address this issue as well. There are huge potholes on the road, which give a tough time to commuters during rains,” said Muneer Ahmad, a local.
Residents said that despite multiple requests to the authorities, no steps have been taken to fix the road. They said devotees and students are having a tough time while commuting on the road. They said as winters are ahead, they want authorities to repair the road.
“Hundreds of students and devotees commute through the road, and it is inconveniencing them. Locals are also facing issues due to bad road conditions. During the dry season, the road turns dusty affecting our health,” said Ashiq Ahmad, a commuter.
An official said that in the past few months, the work on roads in Srinagar has been expedited and many roads are still being macadamised.
“All these roads will be repaired soon. We have macadamised roads in various areas of Srinagar in the past few months. More roads and link roads will be covered in the coming days,” he said.
