Dilapidated road takes toll on commuters at Khanyar
Srinagar, Dec 29: Passengers of an e-bus had a narrow escape as a stretch of road they were travelling on caved in at Khanyar locality in Downtown today.
The e-bus was stuck in the dilapidated stretch leading to traffic jams. Locals said there were no injuries reported to the passengers.
“This is a daily scene on this road. Daily vehicles are stuck in the dilapidated road. This is all due to haphazard drainage construction on the busy stretch,” said a local.
Commuters expressed strong resentment against the failure of authorities to undertake repairs of Khanyar road.
The vital road was dug up several weeks ago for laying drainage pipes. The road has been filled up haphazardly leading to frequent caving in of the stretch. This can be detrimental to commuters travelling on the road,” locals said.
“Even manholes have been kept uncovered at several places. This can cause accidents,” they added.
The commuters said that the issue is hampering vehicular movement. They said dilapidated roads damage vehicles due to bumpy roads.
“There are huge potholes on the road. Spots where the drainage work is done are worst affected. We want authorities to fix the issue without any delay,” said a commuter.
