Dilapidated Malabagh road takes toll on commuters
Srinagar, May 5: Dilapidated road at Malabagh area is causing immense inconvenience to commuters on the vital route.
The road connects Hazratbal and with Soura including SKIMS.
“This road is vital as it leads to SKIMS Soura. Patients face a lot of inconvenience due to potholes. This road has caved in at various spits and is not fit for vehicular movement. It has been a long time since we have been suffering due to bad road, however, and no one is paying heed,” said Manzoor Ahmad, a local.
The locals said that the road stretch, which is in shambles, is near a private school at Malabagh, and students too are suffering equally.
“Dilapidated road is not only hindering traffic, but it is seriously posing risk of accidents. The potholes are huge and full of water above ankle height. It gets hard for vehicles to move around. Multiple times, two-wheelers, auto rickshaws, and other vehicles suffered damaged due to potholes,” said Muzaffar Ahmad, a commuter.
The commuters in the area said that their vehicles are taking the brunt of bad roads in the area. They said these vehicles need continuous maintenance, which can be avoided if the road is fixed.
An official said that the road is one of the main roads and will be fixed on a priority basis. He said that drainage work was also ongoing on the road and that it was almost complete.
“As the weather clears, the concerned departments will fix all the roads under SMC and main roads under R&B,” said the official.
