Dilapidated drainage system irks Nowhatta residents
Srinagar, Dec 4: Dilapidated drainage system at Nowhatta area of Downtown is taking a toll on the residents.
A delegation from the area said that for the past several months, the drainage network at the main road of their locality is in shambles. They said that the slab of drainage has broken, which is posing a threat to accidents to commuters.
“There is a huge hole in the drainage slab and it has become a threat to pedestrians as well as commuters. Hundreds of locals use this road on a daily basis and authorities are not paying heed to fixing the issue. This can lead to some serious accidents if the drainage is not fixed immediately,” said Bilal Ahmad, a local.
The locals said with the onset of winter, they fear that amid the downpour, they will have more issues. They said that the issue is making the area more prone to waterlogging.
“Winters are ahead, and if authorities do not fix the issue in time, it will linger till next year. We hope that authorities will take immediate steps so that our problem is resolved,” said another local.
The locals said that since the drainage is open, a foul smell is emitting from it which adds to the problem. They said that such an issue can lead to various diseases in locals if not addressed properly.
