Dilapidated condition of Watlab-Tujar Sharief stretch in Sopore irks commuters

Sopore, Jun 23: The Watlab-Tujar Sharief road famously known as Chetkak road in Zaingeer belt of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district is in dilapidated condition making it inconvenient for commuters and transporters to travel on the road.

Local residents said that the 14 km road from Watlab to Tujar Sharief Sopore via Botingoo, Mundji, Dooru and Bomai is in a very bad shape as the road has not been properly macadamised since decades.

The dilapidated condition of the road is giving tough time to the local residents as well as to those who happen to travel using the road. Locals alleged that government has been ignoring this important road since decades, which interconnects all the three districts of north Kashmir, Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara. “This all important road has not been properly macadamised since decades now. Though various other roads which are of least importance have been upgraded and maintained,” Irfan Dilawar Bhat. a social activist said. He said that he alongwith various locals have several times met concerned officials and sought repairs and widening of the road.

“No attempt was made to get the road properly repaired and our requests have fallen on deaf ears, residents also alleged that the road had repaired in September 2022, however the condition of this road has worsened with pothholes and damage appears just months after it get repaired," said locals.
