As the world makes strides in digital technology, imagining future is not just a challenge in plain sense, it perplexes even the best of brains in the world. No one knows exactly what will stand valid in tomorrow’s world, and where the jobs are going to concentrate. What compounds the challenge is the speed with which things are changing in this digital revolution. What is relevant in the morning may not stay so in the evening of the same day, such is the speed of change. In such a scenario how do we prepare our kids for future? How do we teach them technology -its hardware and software. That is a matter of concern.

Though the new education policies and frameworks are duly taking this shift into consideration, but only at a theoretical level. Practically our schools, even our colleges, are no where near matching the challenge. On the ground, our education remains largely guided by the old practices of following the theoretical detail, and testing the same in a memorisation pattern. That is where the danger lies. Tomorrow when our kids would be asked to use the latest technology they will be wanting in key skills to adapt to the new technological systems.

The need of the hour is to equip our children with the skills that enable them to understand change and grapple with its impact. Our students, in schools and colleges need practical exposure to new technology. The education of AI and and related fields should not be anchored in some published text, but in the practical use of ever changing applications. That way we can keep our young generation not only abreast of the latest, but also enhance their capacity to absorb new developments as and when they happen. That is the only way we can help them stay relevant in the times to come. If we don’t make necessary changes in our educational institutions right now, tomorrow will come but we will be disabled to live in those times.
