Ramban, Dec 3: Amid rising traffic volume, congestion on the Srinagar Jammu National Highway (NH-44), particularly along the busy Nachalana–Hingni stretch, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Police, range Jammu Dr Muhammad Haseeb Mughal, conducted an extensive on-spot inspection on Wednesday to assess the situation and streamline vehicular movement.

Officials said the stretch was witnessing frequent disruptions due to large-scale construction activity, including the development of a new flyover near Nachalana Nallah.

The flyover, once connected to the main carriageway, is expected to significantly improve road conditions but is currently contributing to traffic bottlenecks.

To evaluate the challenges first hand, the DIG Traffic inspected the stretch. He was accompanied by SSP Traffic National Highway Ramban Raja Adil Hamid, Project Director NHAI Ramban, Shuvam Yadev, DySP,s traffic Ramban and Banihal sectors and other officials.

DIG Mughal said the visit was prompted by reports highlighting the impact of ongoing construction on the smooth flow of two-way traffic.

“A massive construction exercise for the new flyover is underway, and this is likely to affect hassle-free movement. A spot visit was therefore planned to explore practical solutions,” he said.

During the on-site meeting, detailed deliberations were held with the NHAI Project Director, who assured that adequate manpower and machinery would be deployed during the flyover’s connectivity works. He also assured that two-way traffic would not be hindered during construction.

The DIG Traffic issued directions to traffic police officers to ensure strict regulation along the vulnerable stretch, including installing prominent signage especially ‘No Overtaking’ boards to enhance road safety and reduce accidents.

DIG Mughal also inspected several other congestion-prone spots along NH-44 and instructed officers to ensure optimal deployment of personnel and resources for effective traffic management.

The inspection aimed to ensure smoother movement along one of the region’s most crucial road links as construction activities accelerated in Ramban district.
