Did better than a cabinet minister as DDC chairperson: Safina Baig

Srinagar, Aug 25: The District Development Council (DDC) chairperson Baramulla Safina Baig on Sunday stated that she performed better than a cabinet minister during her tenure as a DDC chairperson of the district.

The statement comes at a time when the Election Commission of India (ECI) has already notified the schedule for J&K Assembly elections in which Baramulla district is going for polls in phase III of the notified schedule.

In her message to supporters, Safina Baig said that she was getting feedback from majority of his workers to contest Assembly elections

"In this regard, I am consulting my people, especially those who have been with me for the past three to four years," she said.

Safina Baig said that she was elected as DDC chairperson Baramulla with the help of the supporters from the Wagoora constituency.

"It was not a big mandate but people are aware of how much effort I have given during my tenure as DDC. I brought those projects for the whole area, which I think even a cabinet minister could not bring," she said.

She urged the supporters and workers for their payback saying that workers should not let her hard work go to waste.

"I request you to compare the work that I have done for the past three years with those who have been the cabinet ministers in this Wagoora constituency," she said.

Baig further said that a lot of people from Baramulla are approaching Muzaffar Hussain Baig to contest the elections. "But we are still talking about that and there will be clarity about it in the coming days," she said.

She further stated that they (Baigs) are being approached from many parties but they will consult their workers and our colleagues.

"I request to my workers that you will not let my hard work go to waste, which I have done for you for the past three years," she said.

She further stated that no one can level corruption charges against her for a single penny.

"The hard work and dedication with which I have taken politics as a form of worship for the past three years, I am sure that my workers and supporters will make the right decision considering my hard work," she said.
