DGP Swain gives directives to counter terror in Chenab Valley ahead of J-K polls

Tells Kishtwar police to increase surveillance

Srinagar, Aug 23: The Director General of Police (DGP) J&K, R.R. Swain today visited Doda and Kishtwar, districts of Jammu province to assess the security situation and review preparations for the upcoming Legislative Assembly Elections-2024, an official handout said.

In recent months, the otherwise peaceful area of Chenab Valley in the Jammu province has seen a spate of attacks on the security forces.

The top cop on his visit to the region, chaired successive high-level security meets even as reviewed the elections preparedness at the District Police Office (DPO) Kishtwar and at the Dak Bungalow, Bhaderwah in Doda, the handout said.

The police chief during the meet issued directives to counter terror and asked his men to ensure free and fair conduct of the elections.

For this, the DGP said that the coordinated efforts from police, CRPF, Army, administration, and the intelligence agencies is indispensable.

In addition to these, the arrangements for accommodation and amenities for troops to be deployed were also discussed, read the handout.

It said that the top cop was informed of the plans in place to overcome the security challenges.

The DGP also inspected the Police Control Room (PCR) Kishtwar and the CCTV Surveillance Room establishments at DPO Kishtwar. He issued directions to enhance surveillance and monitoring in the region.

Accompanied by senior officers, including Special DG and DGP Designate, Nalin Prabhat, ADGP Law and Order Vijay Kumar, and ADGP Jammu Zone Anand Jain, the DGP also visited Machail Mata Mandir in Machail Padder, where he also reviewed security arrangements for the ongoing Machail Mata Yatra-2024, the handout added.
