DGP Prabhat to brief on J&K security with PM in chair

Srinagar, Nov 29: Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat reached Odisha on Friday to attend the three-day all Director Generals of Police (DGPs) and Inspector Generals of Police (IGPs) conference which would have Prime Minister Narendra Modi in chair on Saturday and Sunday.

The meeting which commenced on November 29 would be attended by the senior Police officers from all states and union territories of the country.

A top J&K Police official said that DGP Prabhat reached Bhubaneswar in Odisha to attend the annual conference.

“It is an annual conference which is held in the month of November. All the heads of the Police remain present in the meeting,” he said.

The official said that the DGP Prabhat would not only brief the conference about the security situation of Jammu and Kashmir but also counter-terrorism, narco-terrorism, and policing reforms being undertaken in J&K.

This year’s conference of all DGPs is significant for J&K in the wake of back-to-back terrorist-related activities in J&K, particularly in the Jammu region.

Also, Kashmir witnessed various terror-related incidents including attacks and encounters which also resulted in civilian casualties.

While Chenab Valley witnessed a rise in encounters, around eight terrorists were killed during six operations in the nine days of November.

Four persons including two soldiers and two Army porters were killed in the last week of October after an Army truck was attacked in the Butapathri area, around 6 km from the Gulmarg tourist destination.

The Army vehicle was en route to Nagin Post in the Affarwat range.

Seven workers, including a Kashmiri doctor, were killed in an attack near Gagangeer in Ganderbal district on October 22.
