Srinagar, Mar 1: Police on Sunday reviewed the overall security situation following spontaneous protests that erupted across J&K after reports of the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei in a US-Israeli strike.

A senior Police official told Greater Kashmir that DGP Nalin Prabhat is camping in the Valley and since morning monitoring situation along with other officers.

ìSituation is being reviewed continuously and district police heads have been directed to maintain heightened vigilance, closely monitor developments and take all necessary measures to ensure peace and stability,î  he said. ìThey were instructed to remain alert to any emerging law and order issues and to act swiftly to prevent untoward incidents.î

Amid the evolving situation, Police also issued an advisory to media organisations, journalists, social media users, digital platforms and the general public, urging restraint and responsibility in reporting and sharing information related to law and order.

The advisory emphasised the need to verify news concerning public gatherings, protests or security-related matters through credible and official sources before publication or broadcast.

The advisory cautioned that the circulation of rumours, unverified reports or speculative content could trigger panic and disturb public peace.

Police called upon the media fraternity to avoid sensationalism and rely strictly on official updates to ensure accurate dissemination of information.

Responsible journalism and careful information sharing, Police said, were vital to maintaining calm and communal harmony during sensitive periods.

The advisory warned that any individual or organisation found spreading misinformation or rumours would face legal action under relevant laws.

Authorities said strict measures would be taken against those attempting to disrupt public order through false or misleading narratives. Residents were urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and contribute positively toward preserving peace and harmony.
