DGP chairs high-level meeting
Srinagar, Jan 23: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP), Nalin Prabhat, on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting to review preparations for the Republic Day celebrations scheduled to take place here and elsewhere across the UT.
He also took stock of progress of counter-terrorism operations underway. The virtual mode-based meeting was attended by senior officers with Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Armed, Law, and Order, Vijay Kumar; ADGP Jammu, Anand Jain; Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, and all Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) of the Union Territory.
According to reliable sources, the DGP took a detailed review of ongoing CT operations, particularly in the Pir Panjal region, Chenab Valley, and South Kashmir. Officers briefed him about the current situation and recent developments in these areas.
"Counter-terrorism efforts must be relentless. Target the support systems and logistics networks of terrorist groups to weaken their operations," Nalin Prabhat, according to sources, told the officers. He underlined the need to sustain pressure on terror networks and enhance intelligence-sharing mechanisms to thwart any potential threats.
He also informed about the attempts of infiltration made along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC). While expressing gratitude to the security forces for their efforts in thwarting such attempts, he emphasised the need for smooth coordination.
"Maintaining high-level synergy between J&K Police, the Army, and paramilitary forces is critical for ensuring peace and security in J&K," he said. He also emphasized that vigilance in vulnerable sectors was the key to prevent terrorists from crossing borders.
DGP Prabhat also reviewed the security arrangements for the forthcoming Republic Day celebrations. He was informed about the foolproof security grid established across the Union Territory to ensure smooth conduct of the national event.
J&K DGP instructed officers to remain alert and deploy adequate personnel to safeguard key installations, venues, and public spaces during the celebrations.
The DGP stressed that the effectiveness of community outreach programs could provide a strong message to the public.
The sources added that the DGP further directed officials to intensify surveillance and monitor social media platforms for any moves to disrupt communal harmony or spread misinformation.
