DG YSS reviews sports development in maiden meeting with district officers

Srinagar, Aug 22: Rajinder Singh Tara, the newly appointed Director General of the Youth Services and Sports Department (YSS) J&K, chaired his first meeting with the District Youth Services and Sports Officers (DYSSOs) at the Sports Complex in Wazirbagh.

The day-long meeting included participation from DYSSOs across both divisions, with officers from Jammu joining virtually. Joint Directors of both divisions, the Deputy Director Central, and various Section Incharges from the Directorate were also in attendance.

During the meeting, Tara reviewed progress reports on ongoing sports development projects, discussed current activities, and addressed challenges faced by field officers in their respective districts.

Tara commended the field staff for their potential to identify and nurture top sports talent, provided they fully commit to their roles. He emphasized the importance of increasing youth participation in sports, which not only contributes to their physical and mental well-being but also helps steer them away from negative influences.

Service and promotion-related concerns raised by the officers were also discussed, with Tara assuring that genuine issues would be addressed with urgency and priority.

In a separate session with District Publicity Coordinators (DPCs), Tara underlined the importance of widespread publicity for departmental activities. The DPCs presented various innovative ideas to enhance the visibility of sports initiatives across both divisions.

In his concluding remarks, Tara called for enthusiastic celebrations for the upcoming National Sports Day/Week, highlighting the event's significance in fostering a strong sports culture in the country. He stressed the role of National Sports Day in promoting regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle among citizens of all backgrounds.

The meeting also touched on preparations for the upcoming Youth Festival, with Tara emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and ensuring opportunities for young people from all backgrounds to participate. Additionally, the arrangements for upcoming marathon events, both half and full, were discussed, with a focus on promoting physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle among the youth.
