Devyani Rana attends cremation of PDD daily wager, seeks safety mechanism

Jammu, Nov 3: BJP candidate for the by-polls to Nagrota constituency, Devyani Rana met grieving family of Shubham Manhas, a PDD daily wager, who lost his life while performing duty.

Rana met the grieving family and others at the National Highway, where they were staging protests over the incident. She also joined the mourners at the cremation ground.

At his residence, Rana offered condolences and expressed solidarity. She expressed concern over repeated mishaps involving PDD field staff, adding that they point to serious gaps in safety protocols and must be examined at highest level to create a system that ensures protection of workers performing high-risk duties.

Rana emphasised that safety of maintenance, technical staff cannot be compromised under any circumstances, and called for immediate corrective and preventive measures to minimise such accidents. She reiterated that those working tirelessly to maintain essential services deserve a safe and secure work environment, equipped with proper gear, training, and supervision. She also sought a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to this incident to prevent recurrence. Rana also sought immediate, adequate compensation for bereaved family, along with all possible support to help them rebuild their lives.
