Desist from using firecrackers or face action: Police
Srinagar, Sep 24: Police today issued advisory to prevent the use of firecrackers in marriage functions as per directives of the NGT and the Supreme Court.
In a statement, police said a brief panic ensued near the Passport Office in Srinagar on Wednesday after a suspicious object was discovered in the area. “However, Srinagar Police later confirmed that the item turned out to be firecrackers used during a nearby marriage celebration.
The area was immediately cordoned off, and a Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was rushed to the scene. The team safely defused and examined the material, confirming that it posed no threat.”
“We want to remind the public that the use of firecrackers containing harmful chemicals is banned, as per directives issued by the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal (NGT). Any violation will invite legal action under the law,” the police stated, adding that “spreading rumours or misinformation in such situations could lead to strict legal consequences.”
