Srinagar, Nov 7: Central University of Kashmir (CUK), in collaboration with Lincoln University, Malaysia, organised a one-day international seminar on ‘Biotechnology for Startups, Innovations and Entrepreneurship for Developing the Indigenous Bioeconomy’ at the University’s Science Campus at Tulmulla.

A statement of CUK issued here said that the event was jointly coordinated by the Department of Biotechnology and the Office of the Dean, International Affairs, and witnessed participation from students, research scholars, and faculty members from the Departments of Biotechnology, Botany, and Zoology.

In his welcome address, Dean, School of Life Sciences and HoD Biotechnology, Prof Abid Hamid Dar, thanked the Vice Chancellor, Prof A Ravinder Nath, and other dignitaries for their encouragement and participation.

He highlighted the school’s vision of becoming a center for biotechnology-based startups and emphasised the role of students and scholars in realising this goal.

Delivering the keynote lecture, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovations), Lincoln University, Malaysia, Prof Sandeep Poddar, spoke about fostering a culture of innovation and translating academic research into commercially viable ventures.

He emphasised the growing significance of biotechnology-driven startups in generating employment, addressing societal challenges, and advancing India’s position as a global innovation hub.

Prof Poddar also held interactive discussions with faculty members, scholars, and students, exploring collaborative opportunities between the two institutions.

He later visited the research laboratories of the Departments of Biotechnology, Zoology, and Botany, where he was briefed about the ongoing research initiatives.
