Department of Posts issues Pictorial Cancellation for Lal Chowk Post Office

Srinagar, Nov 26: Chief Postmaster General, Jammu & Kashmir Circle T S Srilatha released Pictorial Cancellation for Lal Chowk Post Office in a function at GPO Complex in Srinagar.

The Pictorial Cancellation depicts the image of iconic Ghanta Ghar. “This pictorial cancelation will be available in the Lal Chowk Post Office from today and each article of mail which will be booked from this Post Office will be impressed with this cancellation so that the beauty of  Ghanta Ghar Lal Chowk will reach to every corner of the country and even to the other countries,” Department of Posts said in a statement.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Postmaster General informed that permanent, regular date cancellations are provided by the Department of Posts at any post office located at a place of tourist attraction. “It normally features the major tourist attraction of the place. In Srinagar, Ghanta Ghar has become one of the tourist attractions after its renovation and beautification under Srinagar Smart City project,” he said.

Srilatha said that Department of Posts is committed to the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and services are being expanded to every section of the society in every possible way. “Department of Posts is promoting the beautiful tourist places, famous historical books like “Raja Tanagni”, flaura and fauna of Jammu and Kashmir by release of special covers, Picture Post Cards and PPCs many of which have already been issued and few more are in pipe line,” she said.

She empathised on the writing of letters to loved ones, relatives, close friends for building relations. “Once our kids, friends and relatives move far away, writing letters is the perfect way to keep the old relationships going on,” she added.

Chief Postmaster General also informed that Department of Posts has created support system, platforms for the students and other people by holding two major competitions this year viz, “Dhai Akhar Letter Writing Competition”, “Deen Dayal SPARSH Scholarship Yojna.”. These competitions have handsome cash awards for winners and results of these are being declared after the competitions are over. She urged that students and other people should participate in Dhai Akhar Letter writing competition under “Below 18 year’s category” and “Above 18 year’s category” which is going on and will be upto December 14, 2024.

Javaid Ahmad Haji, SSPOs Srinagar, Ali Mohd Shah, Assistant Director Postal Services, Ramesh Lal Sharma, Assistant Supdt. Post Offices were also present in the function.
